The Grand Prix for the best overall play at the 14th edition of the ICTF “Bitolino” is awarded to the play “A Flea and a Ant” produced by the Professional State Youth Theater – Nodar Dumbadze from Tbilisi, Georgia.
“A performance that exemplifies world-class vibrant artistry, poetic aesthetics, ensemble synergy at its finest with deep cultural roots performed with exquisite precision and layered, moving storytelling that has a profound and enlightening effect both emotionally and intellectually. A complete theatrical experience that makes you think. A masterfully executed symphony of story, acting, sound and movement, visual aesthetics, music, physical life of both characters, actors and puppets, design, dynamics, quality of energy, rhythm and tempo with a clear vision and direction that offers a magical atmosphere. An experience that stops time as we know it and awakens the individual and collective memory of our ancestors. Rooted in local folklore, a performance intertwined with traditional music, ritual gesture and fantastic design motifs, keeping the story immediate and contemporary, and the narrative fresh and engaging for the audience.” – says the jury.
Additionally, this year the jury decided to award a Special Award for Mastery of Acting to Ivica Šimić from the “Mala Scena” theatre in Zagreb, Croatia. He opened the official program with the play “Pale sam na svijetu”.
“It is a great honor and privilege for us this year to give an award for masterful acting achievement to the legend of Croatian acting Ivica Šimić for the role of Pale in the play ‘Pale sam na svijetu’ produced by the Mala Scena theatre in Zagreb, Croatia, which he has been performing for 39 years with over 3000 performances worldwide in multiple languages.” – adds the jury.
